Featuring: Shulamit Day Berlevtov

The Sexual Assault Network is offering a professional development day on Non-Violent Communication.

Compassionate communication, also known as Nonviolent Communication (NVC), was developed by clinical psychologist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (www.nonviolentcommunication.com). NVC is a process and a paradigm for communication that focuses on the needs that are alive in each of us, thus fostering a shift from “right/wrong thinking” and defensiveness (both inner and outer) to connection with self and others. Communicating with a focus on needs leads to outcomes that enrich life and nurture the natural human impulse toward joyous giving. The skills learned in the workshop can be used in both our personal lives as well as the counselling process.

This introductory workshop includes experiential activities and presentation of theory. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have had introductory exposure to:

The heart of the NVC process and paradigm: Needing

The context and four elements of the NVC process: Observing, Feeling, Needing and Requesting

Two NVC dialogue processes

When: May 27, 2013 9:00 – 4:00

Where: Ruth E. Dickinson Library (100 Malvern St.)

Can you imagine the positive change that affordable housing can make in people’s lives? Good housing leads to good health, stable housing leads to success in school and jobs. Safe and secure housing leads to a higher quality of life at all ages. Better housing leads to a better Ontario.

Housing Opens Doors is a multi-year campaign to make affordable housing a priority for Ontario. Led by the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association, the campaing has many supporters, including housing providers and tenants, organizations serving the public good, corporate sponsors and concerned people like you.

Here is how you can participate:

Step one: go to the campaign website (www.housingopensdoors.ca) and ring the bell (then go to another computer and ring it again!)

Step two: come to the Byward Market on Saturday May 25 and ring the bells on our real live doors! Bring tenants & members, bring clients, bring your stories and bring a loud voice. We want to show the whole city and the whole province that housing really does open doors.

Step three: Help us spread the word by downloading posters, adding the campaign banner to your e-mail and website, and sharing the campaign through your social media networks: www.onpha.on.ca/content/HousingOpensDoors/digitalToolkit/
