Creating A Sense of Security in Uncertain Times
It’s hard for children to behave well when everything is changing around them. They no longer know what to expect. They may feel that their life is no longer in control. Pandemic restrictions have changed everyday activities this past year for everyone, adults and children. How can we restore a sense of security that will allow children to settle down and feel confident going forward? This presentation will look at how you can use routine and ritual to give your children solid roots.
Thursday April 1, 2021 – 10:00am-12:00amKeeping Calm to Think Straight
Does your toddler’s crying get you so upset you want to scream? Do you lose it when your little one has a tantrum? Children feed off our moods, so it is hard for them to calm down when we have “flipped our lid” too. But feeding off our moods also means that if we can keep calm ourselves, it will be easier for them to calm down too. This presentation will show you how the alarm system in the brain makes thinking difficult, for adults and for children. You will also learn some strategies to regulate your own emotions so that you can help your child learn to do the same thing.
Thursday April 8, 2021 – 10:00am-12:00am
Connecting through Play
Play is the way children learn and grow. It is also the way they work through their emotions and deal with stress. We can support children’s play in ways that encourage this growth. At the same time, child-led play builds connections and strengthens our relationship. This presentation will give you ways to build the kind of strong relationship which will help you guide your children’s behaviour, now and all through their growing up.
Thursday April 15, 2021 – 10:00am – 12:00am

This presentation will help you find opportunities to change the mood for everyone in the family. Receiving Advice You Didn’t Ask For
When you have a baby, you soon discover that everyone has an opinion on how you should be a good parent. Some opinions you may welcome; others you may disagree with. How do you deal with the advice you didn’t ask for? This presentation will give you some ideas of how to decide what advice to accept. You’ll also learn ways to respond when you don’t agree, even when the advice is coming from someone close to you.
